Feeling the chill wind of reduced bookings, the Hong Kong Tourist Association (HKTA) has announced a major winter promotion to help the trade sell Hong Kong and boost arrivals.

The HKTA's "Winter in Hong Kong: Great Savings, Great Time" promotion aims to overcome the vacuum left by tourists who brought forward their Hong Kong visits to early 1997 before the handover, HKTA director northern Europe Don McDougall said. "Winter is always a great time to visit Hong Kong, because of its mild winters, the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping and the excitement of the Chinese New Year Festival."
