Waltz on into Vienna to enjoy good wine and hearty food in Austrian style at one of the many "Heurigen", or boutique wineries, around the city.
The Viennese use the word "heuriger" to describe wine from the last grape harvest, and for the establishments where it is served.
Although Vienna's wine-growing districts are still within city limits, they have retained their original village character, where guests can relax for an afternoon or evening of wine and heuriger music.
Winegrowers, by law, can serve their wine for a maximum of only 300 days per year, and visitors can tell which Heurigen are open by looking for a sprig of pine hanging above the entrance.
