Built five years ago to look like Holland and display Dutch culture, the huge park attracts 4.2 million visitors per year, most of them Japanese. It also draws 300,000 visitors per year from elsewhere in Asia, mostly Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
Hotel Europe, a 329-room hotel built to resemble the Hotel de l'Europe in Amsterdam, is the most expensive hotel in Japan, with an average room rate of about US$330 per night, including tax and service charge, said Henk Boer, manager of international sales.
The second-priciest hotel in Japan is also in the park grounds, the 203-room Hotel Amsterdam, as is the sixth most expensive, the 228-room Hotel Den Haag. The expensive hotels are especially popular with incentive tours, especially from Singapore and Hong Kong, said Boer.
Huis Ten Bosch looks much like Holland, and great care was taken with the details. Much of the building material was imported from Holland, and the US$3 billion park comes complete with windmills, cheese-making factories, canal tours, and other aspects of Dutch life.
