A reggae concert and a gala dinner were among the highlights of a week-long cultural festival held recently along the newly-opened, 6km-long Sanur Beach Esplanade in Denpasar
The Sanur Beach Festival was hosted by the Sanur Village Promotion Board (SVPB) and opened by Indonesian tourism minister Joop Ave and World Tourism Organisation (WTO) secretary general Francesco Frangialli. The SVPB hosted about 800 WTO delegates and dignitaries from 72 nations for a gala dinner.
"One of the basic tourist motivations in coming years will be the quest for both natural and cultural diversity," said Frangialli. "Tourism will only be sustainable if it is developed with respect for its natural surroundings, and destinations will only be successful if they maintain their own cultural identity," Frangialli said.
