Lufthansa cuts commission

DOWN: Singapore commissions.

COMMISSIONS in Singapore have taken a further chop now that Lufthansa (LH) has revised its structure from nine per cent to a five per cent documentation fee.

An LH spokeswoman said agents were informed of the change through letters issued at the end of October and November 1. "As we did not initiate (the move towards documentation fees in Singapore) and are just following the market trend, the timeframe of notice to agents is not that crucial anymore. Since it is the market trend nowadays, agencies knew these changes were coming."

Singapore now has different levels of commission. United Airlines started the ball rolling with seven per cent commission in July.

Singapore Airlines followed with flat rate documentation fees from October 1.

Since then, Cathay Pacific moved down to sixper cent documentation fee from November 1, while Lufthansa started its five per cent fee this week. Qantas and British Airways will be paying agents five per cent documentation fee from December.
