CX posts record month

Cathay Pacific carried 69,965 tonnes of freight in September, a single-month record. The strong growth in CX's cargo volumes was mainly due to the seasonal surge of air cargo exports from Hong Kong. The airline carried a total of 557,543 tonnes of freight over the first nine months of this year, a rise of 17.3 per cent over the same period in 1999.

North China Express upgraded

CMA-CGM and Norasia are to upgrade their joint North China Express service by adding an additional ship and including an eastbound call at Jakarta.

To offer a much improved schedule integrity, the lines will push the service deployment from nine to 10 vessels, and include the Jakarta call this month.

The ships to be deployed are mainly in the 1,600-2,500 TEU frame, although the one Norasia ship, Norasia Malta offers 3,600 TEUs capacity. The first call eastbound at Jakarta was expected to be made by CMA Xingang on November 12.
