The Safari service now calls at Port Klang, Singapore, Hong Kong, Keelung, Yokohama, Shimizu, Nagoya, Kobe, Moji, Busan, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Cape Town, and Port Klang. Formed in 1981, it is one of the oldest established vessel sharing agreements.
P&O-Nedlloyd sources say, "We will leave the Safari service and concentrate our activities in this sector on a trunk service linking Asia, South Africa and South America's east coast, a service which we already operate with Mitsui-OSK Lines."
P&O-Nedlloyd is expected to introduce a series of new ships now nearing completion, or just completed in Korea, for CP Offen and chartered to P&O-Nedlloyd, onto this service.
These ships are understood to be around 3,500-TEU capacity. On the service, they will operate alongside Mitsui-OSK Lines' "Challenger" class vessels, which themselves are around 2,700-TEU capacity, and only recently delivered.
