Honess has worked in the Gulf region for 10 years, first in Bahrain and then Dubai. For two years, up to the end of 1999, he was business systems manager cargo with Mercator, the Emirates Group's IT division.
Before joining the Emirates Group, he was based in Bahrain for eight years as cargo manager automation with Gulf Air.
Honess began his career with Japan Airlines as a cargo officer at Heathrow Airport in London and worked for that airline for 11 years.
After that he then joined Swissair as a cargo duty manager. After four years with Swissair, he went out to the Gulf.
