The 2004 Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards

SHANGHAI: Against the backdrop of Asia's most dynamically growing transport and logistics market, the best providers in Asia's cargo-related industries have been rewarded for a year of outstanding work at the 2004 Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards, or the AFSCAs (pronounced similarly to 'Oscars', but with an 'aff' sound, not an 'o').

Now in its 18th year, the AFSCAs are widely regarded as the most authoritative and prestigious awards for the industry in Asia and one of the highlights of the Asian freight industry calendar.

More than 12,500 readers of Cargonews Asia, the leading industry newspaper in the region, were polled to select companies which are the best service providers in 34 industry-specific categories. A full list of award winners is attached.

Notable winners were DHL who took home 4 AFSCAs including the Best Express Operator award for a stunning 18th consecutive year and Maersk Sealand who took home nearly all the container line trophies for best transpacific and best Asia Europe trades as well as Best Overall Shipping line.

Winner of the "Life-Time Achievement Award" was Mr. Ang Keng-Lam Chairman of Kerry Logistics Networks and Vice-Chairman of the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing a key player in the development of the Logistics industry in China.

The AFSCAs special role is that they are the only Asian freight awards in which the customers, and not a panel of judges, are asked to choose the best service providers. Nominated companies can track their performance and gauge customer satisfaction levels by watching their standings change from one year to the next.

The awards recognise excellence in companies from Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia, and reflect the global nature of the cargo industry serving Asia's Shippers.

Notable AFSCAs successes tonight included Maersk Sealand. The award ceremony took place in the grand ballroom of Shanghai's Grand Hyatt Hotel in the stunning Heart of Pudong.

All returned nomination and final ballot forms were verified by internationally respected auditor, KPMG. The top three finalists in each award category all received the top number of votes from the final ballot paper, which contained a shortlist of the top 10 nominees for each award. The AFSCA ballot papers are numbered and designed so as to prohibit companies voting for themselves voting is strictly by registered voters.

Cargonews Asia, the organiser of the Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards, is a fortnightly newspaper, which has been published every two weeks for the last 28 years. The paper is dedicated to covering news from the international and regional cargo industry for senior executives in Asia.

The core readership of Cargonews Asia are shippers - importers & exporters who use freight transport services - hence the term, "The Shippers' Choice Awards", which is associated with the AFSCAs.

Full details on the methodology of the 2004 AFSCAs can be found by clicking on the AFSCA logo at www.cargonewsasia.com.
